Hi Gang,

Just spent an hour or so trawling through gearbox topics via the search engine, but none seem to match my symptoms.

A rattle, you could almost liken it to something dragging across the teeth of a cog. But as you increase the engine revs, the frequency also increases but then holds. When driving the rattle frequency increases until about 20 mph, then remains constant even up to speeds of 70 mph.

it does it stationery, in drive or reverse, park, and neutral. So looks like a input.

Had it serviced the other day, technician went all round the engine, and suggests it is coming from the gearbox.

Its going to a gearbox specialist tomorrow, him initial comment after hearing it, was that it could be a worn baffle.

Yes you would think torque convrter.

Remembering car was serviced and MOT'd Thursday, noise diagnosed as not coming from engine, so told it must be gearbox (out of their scope).

Got the car back from gearbox specialist after being in the shop for one hour.

The noise is coming from inside the cat converter!!!!!!

A financial relief, I can live with that a little longer, OR CAN I?

Well this morning, the "cat converter" coughed it guts up all over the A19, transmission fluid all over and no drive.

So Steven, if an award could be made, you would win it. Torque converter it is.

That Kia sedonna is looking awfully inviting.

Ah - so very little hope for the original "technician" after all.

With commiserations for the breakdown etc - however, the Kia Sedona has a certain "reputation" that is worse than the Galaxy's. If you are seriously looking at one, the facelifted version, with the larger radiator grille is supposed to be somewhat less awful than the original version.

Thought of the Hyundai Trajet as a budget alternative ?

Hi Chaps,

I know this one is a little old, but thought I would wind up this topic with the final report.

I took out a warenty direct policy a month before this fatal event, paying monthly. The car was repaired by a gearbox specialist, not registered with W.D, so I expected to have to pay up front and expect to claim back, if I could.

The car was repaired,
